Large volumes of data for healthcare and social services planning

Smart Social Home Care collects data on social services, health, population, economic activity, use of basic supplies, waste management, and other aspects. The goal is to use this information to identify and predict groups and areas that need assistance.

The dashboards generated with this data allow professionals to visualize what is happening in their field and, thus, make better decisions to help the vulnerable population.

Smart Social Home Care is born with the aim of empowering social services to use a preventive approach to social issues. Additionally, it helps them make decisions based on real data.

eKauri

Third-generation teleassistance that improves the quality of life for elderly people, individuals with disabilities, or those in dependent situations.

eKauri is an innovative tool for individuals who live alone or spend many hours alone at home and find themselves in some form of dependency situation. This device provides support to caregivers and family members with the aim of making the home a safer space, without compromising the privacy and independence of the person.

The system learns from the user and their environment by studying their routines and habits, in order to predict the user’s condition and anticipate future problems. eKauri adapts to each home in a personalized way through presence, lighting, and temperature sensors that monitor the attitude, behavior, and habits of the person.

Caregivers and family members receive alerts, summaries, and statistics about the data processed by the tool. Some of the functionalities include recording accessed rooms, exits from home, and sleep monitoring.

Genesis

eKauri was implemented between January 1st and December 31st, 2017, driven by the Association for Independent Living and Eurecat. The objective is to enhance the independence of elderly people, individuals with disabilities, or those in dependency situations.

Implementation level

According to data from the INE in 2021, more than two million people over the age of 65 live alone in Spain. This figure represents a 22% increase compared to the last census in 2011. eKauri addresses this reality through tools that enhance the autonomy of users who require care at home, without the need to leave their residence.

eKauri was one of the projects selected in the Research and Innovation call by the La Caixa Foundation in 2017.

Radars

Network of prevention and community action aimed at reducing the risk of isolation and social exclusion of elderly people

The Radars project helps to detect, assess, and monitor the situation of elderly people. In this way, it enables elderly individuals living alone to continue in their homes with the support of their surroundings.

Neighborhood and commercial radars are individuals who, with a respectful approach, offer support and communicate risk situations to professional services.

The project combines the active role of Social Services with the shared responsibility of neighborhood entities and services. All of this is based on a community approach that allows the development of shared processes for the detection and connection of elderly people to the community network in their neighborhood.

Genesis

The Radars project was born in 2008 in the Camp d’en Grassot neighborhood (Gràcia). Faced with the detection, by Social Services, of cases of elderly people living alone or with limited support networks, it was decided to carry out a diagnosis of the situation and needs of this group.

Implementation level

The initiative began to be implemented citywide in 2012, specifically in 15 neighborhoods, and by 2017 it had expanded to 35. In 2022, it was introduced in the Barceloneta and Parc Vila Olímpica areas. Currently, there are inquiries to transfer it to other locations in Catalonia and Spain. The practice has had an impact on the target group, the territorial environment, and the functioning of the responsible organization.
