A Big Data System that provides social services professionals with an objective assessment of the situations of risk of child helplessness and helps them in the detection of cases and in the decision process of activation of the protocols for social intervention.

The Allegheny Family Screening Tool (AFST) is a tool based on specially designed algorithms that analyzes a large number of data from different sources of information. When social services receive information about a possible situation of helplessness or mistreatment, the algorithm calculates the risk index of the case by analyzing more than a hundred parameters such as criminal history, drug use, mental illness or History of child abuse of parents, guardians or people who live in the child’s home

The algorithm provides great accuracy in case detection and as a recent article in the New York Times concluded, “the Allegheny experience suggests that its screening tool is less bad at weighing biases than human screeners have been”.

Home care organization that works through teams that have professional freedom and are responsible for their own operation. Each team is made up of 12 people and works in a neighborhood taking care of people who need support and managing the team’s work. Each new team looks for their own office in the neighborhood, dedicates time to introduce themselves to the local community and to get to know the GPs, therapists and other social and health professionals. The team decides how to organize the work, share responsibilities and make decisions.

As a KMPG study states: “Essentially, the program allows nurses (rather than nursing assistants or caregivers) to provide all the care the patient needs. And while this has meant higher costs per hour, the total number of hours has been lower. In fact, by changing the care model, Buurtzorg achieved a 50 percent reduction in hours of care, improved the quality of care and increased employee job satisfaction. ”

An Ernst and Young study estimated that the new system allowed a 40% savings on home care in the Netherlands.

In January 2016, the Fontenuovo residence opened a unit for Alzheimer’s patients that includes an innovative therapeutic garden designed by a multidisciplinary team that emphasizes the social value of the garden.

The design meets the requirements defined in the most recent scientific studies aimed at improving the health, behavior and quality of life of patients. Thus space is planned naturally, with inputs, outputs, paths, work and rest areas and well-defined points of reference that allow easy orientation and reduce the feeling of insecurity. The garden has five sensorial areas that contain more than thirty plant species and that allow the stimulation of the senses of the patients.

Other Italian institutions and companies are working on the design of these types of gardens. Recently, two companies, Mati 1909 and Generali Arredamenti, presented in Pistoia a garden prototype for patients with Alzheimer’s disease, also with the aforementioned general characteristics.

Learning web page for children 0-4 years with motor, sensory, cognitive and emotional disabilities or with serious behavioral, social or cultural disorders. The web page offers a broad catalog of multimedia activities aimed at developing the motor skills, cognitive and communicative skills of children. Children can access four types of learning activities: cause-effect, basic skills, stories and painting.

The differentiating feature of the web page is the form of access to the activities which allows that people with serious motor or relationship problems are able use all of them.

Children access the computer by Scanning, a simplified form of access to the computer or tablet using two unique buttons, one that is used to do the search and the other to perform the action. These buttons can be the two mouse clicks, the space and enter keys on the keyboard, or switches that emulate them.

Collaboration agreement with the Grífols Foundation to strengthen the ethical perspective of our projects

,

On February 12, 2019 the Social Foundation and the Víctor Grífols i Lucas Foundation have signed a collaboration agreement in order to strengthen the ethical perspective in the activities and research and innovation projects in the social sector that will promote the iSocial Foundation from now on.

On behalf of the Grífols Foundation, the agreement was signed by its director, Núria Terribas, while Montserrat Cervera signed on behalf of the iSocial Foundation.

The collaboration agreement arises, on the one hand, of the interest and commitment of the iSocial Foundation to guarantee a proper and rigorous treatment of the ethical dimension in all its activities and projects; and, on the other, the expertise and reputation of the Grífols Foundation in this field of knowledge. To that end, the agreement provides for mutual commitments to incorporate the ethical perspective, both in terms of knowledge and possible activities and financing.

The focus is on creating a safe, positive and supportive environment for people who are too often ignored or who feel disconnected from the community. Their volunteers are not social workers or experts on homelessness – they are empathetic listeners and great conversationalists.

Orange Sky volunteers have participated to date in more than 144,000 hours of conversation and have helped to change the perception of the homeless and connect communities throughout Australia.

Meeting of the Social Council at the new headquarters of the foundation

,

On January 10, 2019, the Social Council of iSocial Foundation met at its new headquarters, 151 Lepant St. in Barcelona. The plenary meeting of the Social Council, the second to date, has served to review the activity developed by the foundation during its first four months, from September to December 2018, and to discuss the priority lines of action set for the first months of 2019 by the Council of Government. Some of the main challenges are to consolidate the projects initiated; identify other necessary projects and promote them; expand national and international relations to establish alliances; continuously create and publish content; and, finally, get funding.
