Tele-rehabilitation service for people with physical disabilities living in rural areas through an App for mobile phones and a web portal. It offers remote consultation, prevention, diagnosis and therapeutic rehabilitation services. The programme, which started with physical rehabilitation, is expanding to other disciplines such as physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy and assistive technologies.

The tele-rehabilitation services have a dual focus. On the one hand, to provide quality training to professionals in rural areas to improve their rehabilitation skills through regular courses and workshops. On the other hand, to guide and advise in real time the professionals working in the field through a central team of experts.

Over the years, Sambhav has used the data obtained to standardize various rehabilitation services. The aim is that all people with physical disabilities can receive fast and quality care at their place of residence by qualified professionals.

P.I.P.P.I., intensive care programme for vulnerable families with young children

Laboratory for Research and Intervention in Family Education of the University of Padova, Italian Ministry of Labour and Social Policies

Girls playing.

Intensive and multidisciplinary intervention programme in vulnerable families to reduce the risk of children being removed from their nuclear family, articulating a set of combined actions in relation to children’s needs: intensive home care, group activities with other parents, accompaniment by volunteer families, and joint work with teachers and social workers from schools and social services.

In line with the aim of the Convention on the Rights of the Child to develop measures to ensure the best interests of the child, the Italian Ministry of Social Welfare, in partnership with the University of Padua, designed and implemented from 2011 this intensive care programme for vulnerable families called the Intervention Programme for the Prevention of Institutionalization. Its abbreviation, P.I.P.P.P.I. is at the same time inspired by the fictional character Pippi Långstrump, a creative and surprisingly resilient girl known all over the world.

As its name suggests, P.I.P.P.P.I. aims to prevent out-of-home care and respond to problems related to child neglect, taking into account the right of all children to quality care. When parental neglect is involved, and there is a subsequent removal of the child, the removal itself expropriates the competence of the parents. This practice does not seem to be the most desirable intervention, so P.I.P.P.Y. experiences a social response that attempts to put the developmental needs of children first.

P.I.P.P.P.Y. represents a co-ordinated and co-operative work between different institutions, professions and disciplines of social services, psychology and pedagogy to act together in order to achieve a reduction in the number of children removed from their families. At the same time, P.I.P.P.P.I. has developed its own tool for the assessment and evaluation of cases based on models from Scotland and Quebec.

P.I.P.P.P.Y. is now widespread throughout Italy, and several academic studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of this intervention model. The evaluation report of the seventh edition of the programme 2018-2020 provides evidence of the bonus results achieved.

Voiceitt

An application that allows people with speech impairments to use intelligent voice assistants

Voiceitt is an accessibility application for people with speech disabilities or speech impairments that learns the particularities of the atypical speech of these people and translates it into the voice assistants on the market, so that they can use them for their conversations and daily routines like other citizens.

The app analyses the voice data, cadence, breathing, pauses, etc. of each person and, by means of automatic learning, learns and models the speech patterns to understand what they are saying. In addition, a team of experts continuously analyses speech samples to calibrate and refine the algorithm to achieve accurate interpretation for an increasingly wide range of speech forms.

The time Voiceitt takes to train varies from person to person. In general, it takes only a few minutes to make a sentence available for use, while in other cases it needs to have several recordings of the person’s voice.

As for languages, since Voiceitt learns each person’s unique speech patterns, it can accommodate phrases in any language. Currently, the application interface (including instructions, settings page, error messages, etc.) is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Hebrew, while the application’s pre-written phrases are all in English. Individuals can create customized phrases and scenarios in the language of their choice.

Successful enrollment in the course “How to improve communication and image of Social Services”

,

On the 14th of February we inaugurated with great success of registrations a 1st edition of the course “How to improve communication and the image of Social Services”, in collaboration with the Catalan Association of Municipalities. And on March 9, a new edition for elected officials is scheduled to begin.

This first edition involves technicians from 28 Town Councils and County Councils from all over the territory, including Town Councils such as Sabadell, Rubí, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Igualada, Banyoles, Palafrugell and Sant Carles de la Ràpita, or County Councils such as El Segrià, Alt Empordà, Solsonès, La Garrotxa, Baix Penedès, or Alt Camp, among others.

The course is taught by communication science professor Víctor Puig, a member of the iSocial team, and by other people from the Zinkdo Digital agency run by Puig, such as Núria Palomares, Carolina Menéndez and Víctor Guerrero.

In order to transform Social Services so that it ceases to be the system that addresses the failures of other public systems and is built as the system that provides care throughout our life cycle, the Administrations are facing the difficulty that most of the citizenry does not feel challenged by the Social Services System, because they generally associate it with people who are in a serious situation of poverty and exclusion. And since no one wants to be part of the most excluded part of society, most citizens are not interested in or considered potential users.

In the imagination of the citizens, Social Services are not conceived as a core system of the welfare state, which attends to the entire population throughout its life, and which acts as a preventive element in the face of material social needs. , relational or linked to personal autonomy, and accompanies people to develop their life project. Nor is there any awareness of what the system does or how to use it, so it is not missing or required when it fails or is not.

Although the public and private budgets dedicated to Social Services have not stopped growing in recent years, this investment effort is often not perceived or valued by the territory (economic agents, citizens, associations…), the strengths of its action they are poorly known and even perpetuate old stereotypes and visions that have little to do with what Social Services are today.

The course therefore raises the question of how far citizens know all that Social Services can offer them, and how far the responsibility of the managers of these services goes in this possible ignorance. And at the same time to what extent can not only correct this ignorance, but also the distorted and even negative images of Social Services that sometimes circulate among the population of counties and municipalities.

Other sectors of our society have managed to reverse similar situations. This course aims to convey that innovation in Social Services is also about changing the way we explain and communicate, to give value to what we do from Social Services; to make visible its potential as an agent that contributes in a decisive way to social cohesion and the quality of life of people.

138 social workers from 16 ABSS have already completed the course on Self-Directed Support

,

The course consists of 8 workshops that are taught virtually, and is part of the training catalog of the Catalan Association of Municipalities (ACM). According to the ACM, the course is offered in the Basic Areas in a territorialized way by Vegueries. After the first editions for the ABSS of the Vegueries of Terres de l’Ebre, the Alt Pirineu-Aran and Penedès, the next edition will be addressed to the ABSS of the Vegueria Ponent, with start date on April 1.

The course “From Person-Centered Care to Self-directed Support” aims to introduce the European model of Self-directed Support, which seeks to ensure and preserve an approach of support and accompaniment in the decision-making of the people who go to the basic Social Services, so that they have at all times the possibility to make effective the election and the control on how the action or plan of support is organized to reach the results agreed with the professionals, based on their wishes and rights.

In recent years, Social Services has focused on the focus on person-centered professional interventions, the well-known ACP. But today we know that it’s not so much about putting the person at the center and getting professionals to make decisions with their interests and will in mind, it’s about giving them the support they need to make their own decisions. And this is what the European model of Self-directed Support seeks to guarantee.

The iSocial Foundation will also offer interested town councils and county councils the opportunity to receive personalized support later to help them in the practical implementation of this methodology explained during the course.

This service promotes the good treatment of elderly people in a situation of fragility and advises professionals who act in situations of abuse.

The SEAP (Specialised Service for the Care of People) bases its task on three lines of work. The first is prevention, through advice and training for professionals working with elderly people and people in situations of fragility. The second is social awareness-raising, thanks to talks, workshops, events and campaigns to promote collective awareness of the need to defend the good treatment of people. This area also includes specific actions aimed at professionals, citizens, adults, children and adolescents, the elderly and people with functional diversity. Finally, intervention, which is based on the coordination of actions with social services and other municipal services in situations of mistreatment of elderly people or people in situations of fragility.

The objectives of the SEAP are based on improving the quality of life of elderly people and people in situations of fragility, guaranteeing the prevention, detection and care of poor treatment and mistreatment through interdisciplinary work and networking with other services in the territory. It also responds to the real needs of the professionals who care for elderly people and people in situations of fragility when situations of poor treatment and/or mistreatment are detected.

It also aims to adapt the transmission of essential social, legal and medical information to the rest of the professionals in order to design a joint plan, to respond to the real situations of poor treatment and/or mistreatment of people in these groups and to guide and advise each situation individually, coordinating public and private resources to facilitate the necessary care.

REHAB-LAB

A virtual community for the manufacture of technical aids using 3D printing, which allows users to design and build their own aids in collaboration with technologists and socio-health professionals.

In this service, which is unique in France because of its integration within a rehabilitation centre, engineers are dedicated to innovation and the development of technological assistance for people with disabilities. The REHAB-LAB enables users to actively participate in the manufacture of their technical aids, thanks to 3D printing technology.

3D printing offers many advantages over conventional manufacturing techniques used to date in occupational therapy: adaptation, reproduction, aesthetics, weight, distribution, time, cost, accessibility, appropriation, mediation/occupation…

Accessibility is the main interest of 3D printing for users, who can be more involved in the rehabilitation process. Since the design of an object is digital, the possibility of creating one’s own technical aids is no longer due to the physical manipulation of materials but to the accessibility of the computer tool.

App that allows the person with some kind of dependency or their reference relative to weave and co-create their own support network in their home and their usual environment.

This tool allows maintaining and increasing meaningful social relationships (family, friends, neighbours, etc.) from an inclusive and community point of view, and at the same time prevents an eventual feeling of unwanted loneliness.

The person can contact and contract professional social and health care services on demand, or contact and receive community support for activities of daily living. In this way, myCarenet makes it possible to share the burden of care, lightening the load of the main caregiver.

In addition, both people with dependency and their support (family, community or professional) can access continuous and personalized training that promotes self-care and enables support persons to carry out a quality social and care task.

On the other hand, within the values of the circular economy, myCarenet promotes dignified and regulated work for people with difficulties in finding work and who, with a correct training itinerary, can find employment stability in the social and healthcare sector.
